Window tint simulator

Pick a film for the front and rear windows of a 3D car, from 70% (light) to 5% (darkest). Look from outside or from the driver’s seat, by day or at night. It’s free and runs in your browser.

In the 3D view, the tint panel also sets each window group on its own, adds film to the windshield and glass roof where the car has them, and offers ceramic, carbon, dyed and mirror film.

How dark is 20%, really?

A tint percentage is VLT, visible light transmission: how much light gets through. 20% film lets through about a fifth of the light, so lower numbers are darker.

The film’s number isn’t the whole story. Car glass already blocks some light, and the two multiply. On the Cybertruck, the front door glass lets through 72% from the factory, so 20% film there leaves about 14%. The rear door glass is already dark at 23%, so the same film leaves 5%. Measured by an owner with a calibrated meter (±2%) in August 2024 Cybertruck Owners Club. Tesla doesn’t publish these figures.

We haven’t measured the factory glass on the other cars, so for them the tint panel shows the film’s number alone. The window tint calculator does the math for any glass.

What owners choose

Cybertruck owners on one forum page reported front side windows from 5% to 35% Cybertruck Owners Club, and a common pattern is 20% on the front doors with 70% film over the factory-dark rear glass Cybertruck Owners Club. The tint percentage chart lists what they chose shade by shade, and the Cybertruck window tint guide has every window’s numbers.

What tint costs

In 51 shop price lists in 34 US metros, checked October 17, 2026, tinting a sedan’s side and rear windows in ceramic film typically costs $340 to $460 (38 shops); the window tint cost calculator gives the typical price by vehicle, windows and film. Two shops list ceramic tint for a Tesla Model Y’s sides and rear from $475 to $700, with the windshield extra Dope Tintings, July 2026 Auto Cosmetics, and across all cars AAA puts dyed film at $250–$300, carbon at $350–$500 and ceramic at $400–$800 AAA.

Questions

How do I see what tint would look like on my car?

Use the simulator at the top of this page: choose a car, pick a shade for the front and the rear windows, then look from outside or from the driver’s seat, by day or at night. In a shop, ask the installer to hold film samples against your window.

Can people see you in 20% tint?

A 20% film lets through about a fifth of the visible light. The number alone doesn’t say how much of the cabin people outside can see: that depends on the film type and on how bright it is outside and inside the car. To judge, look at a film sample on your own window in person.

Should I do 20% or 35%?

20% film lets through 20% of the visible light and 35% film lets through 35%, so 20% is darker. Compare both in the simulator from the driver’s seat, by day and at night, look at samples of the film you’re offered, and check your state’s limit for the front windows before you choose.

What does the tint percentage mean?

VLT, visible light transmission, is the share of visible light a window lets through. A 20% film lets through about a fifth of the light; a 70% film lets through most of it.

Does the factory glass change the result?

Yes. Film goes on glass that already blocks some light, and the two multiply: 20% film on glass that lets through 72% leaves about 14%. An installer’s meter reads the finished window, glass and film together.
